Whatever you had to move around to make this happen — thank you. In February you'll be in a room in Florida with a brush in your hand and Pomm at your shoulder, and it's a very good thing you've done for yourself.

A note from Pomm

Start looking for your subject.

I'm so pleased you're coming. Fifteen people, and you're one of them.

Between now and February, do one thing for me. Start looking for your subject — not a painting, a photograph. Something with real light in it, and real shadow. A doorway. A window with the sun coming across it. Someone you love, standing in the afternoon.

Then squint at it. Half close your eyes until the detail disappears and only the shapes are left. If the shadows still read when you do that, it will make a painting — and we'll make it together in February.

Don't worry about whether you can draw it. That's my job. Just find the light.

What happens next.

TodayYour confirmation emailYour receipt and written confirmation of the dates. Keep it — it has everything you'll need if you're claiming the trip against anything.
This weekMegan gets in touchTo welcome you properly and answer anything at all. She's the one who looks after every artist in the Institute, and nothing is too small to ask her.
Within daysYour materials listExactly which paper, which brushes, and how Pomm wants your board stretched. Nothing left to guess at, and plenty of time to gather it.
Before you flyYour preparation callYou and Megan go through your subject, your drawing and your kit together, so the Monday morning starts with painting rather than sorting things out.
Monday 8 FebruaryBreakfast, half past nineYou meet Pomm, and you meet the fourteen others, before a single brush comes out. Most people arrive not knowing one other person who paints. That lasts about an hour. The rest of the morning is yours to settle in, and painting starts at one.

When you're ready

There's no hurry, and Megan will help with any of it. But if you like to have things settled early, here's what you'll want to know.

Nights to book

Most artists arrive on Saturday 6 or Sunday 7 February and leave on Saturday 13. Breakfast together is at half past nine on the Monday, and the optional museum day finishes after lunch on the Friday.

Where to stay

The Vinoy itself is the easy choice — the studio is an elevator ride from your room. Booked directly with the hotel. We don't have a group rate at present; if we secure one, you'll be the first to know.

Flying in

Tampa International is the nearest major airport, roughly forty minutes away. St. Pete–Clearwater is closer and works well on some routes.

Anything you need us to know

Dietary requirements for the included meals, or anything at all that would make the week easier — tell Megan when she calls, and we'll do what we can.

20 December 2026The last day plans can change with a refund, less the $500 preparation and processing fee. After this date your place is confirmed for good.
Saturday 6 FebruaryArtists travelling from further afield usually arrive today.
Monday 8 FebruaryBreakfast together at 9:30, the rest of the morning to settle in, then the first day of painting from 1 till 4.
Tue 9 – Thu 11 FebruaryPainting, 10 till 4. Dinner together on the Thursday, after the last day.
Friday 12 FebruaryThe Museum of Fine Arts with Pomm, and lunch together. Optional, and included.
